The ship docked within a 2 minutes walk to the town. A Caribbean style band played on the dockside, the weather was perfect and off we headed to see what the day held for us. We did not have anything planned just happy to mingle among the locals and browse round the shops and markets. Antigua and Barbados are known for well priced diamonds and other jewellery...George had told me not to even look!!
It's a little bit similar to Bali in a sense however it's the people are very friendly and don't hassle....they ask once and if you say no they just leave you. We bumped into Maureen and Kim and went for a wander around the town further out, the pavements are very uneven and they have very high kerbs. The main source of employment is taxis and tourism so there seems to be men sitting around everywhere with nothing to do. And the dreads are amazing, they wear hats to keep them in place I guess but the hats are similar to Madge Simpson hairstyle...that high!! After a few hours we found the outdoor Bar and we loved it so much we stayed for several hours, just drinking the local stuff. Several friends joined us at different times, great atmosphere.
It got almost unbearably hot in the afternoon. We really enjoyed Antigua, just a lovely relaxing place.
